In Chinese custom, the dragon has always represented the emperor and the phoenix his mate, the empress.

ZUTARA!
I'm hopelessly obsessed by this couple again thanks to the NYCC trailer xD.
I've had this concept in mind for a while. I struggled with starting it because I always have the urge to draw Katara in her customary blue garb, but I decided I'd compromise for the sake of concept.
(You see, it would be weird to color the phoenix blue, considering it's a fire bird.)
Red is the customary color for Chinese weddings, and the dragon and phoenix represent the duality of the couple.
So does this mean I'm hinting toward a Zutara marriage? Erm. I guess you can gather what you will! >w<
The focus is more on Katara, I tried to make it as close to my memories of those Chinese women in the soaps my mom watches. Sooo fun to design.
I'm extremely pleased with it. <3
Done in Photoshop.
Katara and Zuko belong to Nickelodeon.
(I just like to borrow them so I can put them in impractical costumes.)

I like the frequent updates too! I suppose I'm just on a roll! I went through a 2 week phase of not wanting to color stuff and then I woke up a couple days ago like..."I want to color stuff."
I tend to go overboard with concepts and designs xD. I'm glad you like it though!
