LOK: A Night in Republic City

Ever since I saw the first two episodes I wanted to do a piece of the trio at an old-timey 1920’s Shanghai bar scene. Seriously the qi pao and 20’s bob thing combo is such a classically beautiful look of this era, I was dying to take a try at it and Korra already can rock fur so... Although she’s a pretty tomboyish gal, doesn’t mean she can’t wear a qi pao lookin’ awesome . I really wanted to give her hair a classic crimped swoop (think Great Gatsby girls xD) but I still wanted her to be recognizable.

Bolin and Mako kind of fell into place around her. Bolin in a more relaxed shirt and tie look, and his brother in a 3-piece suit with dashing “hansamu” scarf. :3

The original sketch was actually really different, but I like the way it turned out. Lots of re-working and attention to details (mai eyes D: ). I’m pretty pleased despite having plenty of room to improve. I was really pleased with the background and scene around it, the colors surprisingly came very naturally. (Note the green glass bottles! Oohh vintagey!) The writing next to the gourd is actually my Chinese name, don’t judge crap crap penmanship. (hohohoho).

Altogether very happy with the feeling and atmosphere of the bar scene. So adult and sophisticated, but I feel like this series is a bit more as such than Aang’s adventures.
I can’t wait to see how the series continues!
